Cyber risk company Resilience has announced the appointment of a new Chief Underwriting Officer, Maria Long, whose deep experience in cyber will help to accelerate the company’s growth.
Long will report directly to George Kotsiopoulos, president of insurance, and will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the underwriting function for Resilience’s expanding portfolio.
Bringing 17 years of industry experience to her new role, the executive has spent nearly a decade focused on cyber insurance, developing deep expertise in both cyber risk management and Cyber and Tech E&O underwriting.
Kotsiopoulos said: “Maria’s track record and experience in cyber risk are difficult to match. She has quickly become an invaluable asset to our organization, earning strong trust from our capacity partners, brokers, and underwriting team—making her the clear choice for Chief Underwriting Officer.
“Her impressive track record in establishing effective cyber risk programs, combined with her excellent risk selection judgment, gives us great confidence she’ll maintain our industry-leading growth and performance.”
Long joined Resilience in 2024 as Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer following close to three years at Munich Re Specialty where she held leadership positions in cyber underwriting and risk management.
During her time at Munich Re, the executive was responsible for building, launching, and leading their cyber risk management program. She also supported strategic initiatives for application across their Cyber and Tech E&O book of business, supporting growth into new industry verticals.
Prior to this, Long spent more than eight years at Allied World, where she led and developed an industry-leading cyber risk management platform to mitigate risk and attract cyber insureds.
Long commented: “At Resilience, we’ve developed a fundamentally different approach to cyber underwriting. We combine our team’s deep collective underwriting expertise with data-driven risk assessment to evaluate each client’s unique risk profile.
“Rather than simply transferring risk, we actively partner with clients to shape and improve their risk posture through our integrated risk management solutions. This collaborative approach not only leads to better underwriting outcomes but also helps our clients build genuine cyber resilience in an increasingly complex threat landscape.”
Long’s promotion to Resilience Chief Underwriting Officer comes as the company experiences substantial growth, expanding its enterprise client base and solidifying its position as a cyber risk management innovator, the firm stated.
