Insurance and reinsurance broking group Gallagher has appointed Ian Picton to the newly created role of Head of Energy Transition.

In the expanded role, he is responsible for supporting energy clients that already operate in the low-carbon and renewable energy space and those firms that are currently transitioning from traditional energy solutions.

Picton will report to Matt Byatt, Managing Partner, and his team will act as a specialist resource within Gallagher’s energy practice.

He will also work closely with Gallagher’s climate solutions division, led by James Bosley, in its London-domiciled Specialty operations, and its captive specialists, since clients use these as an alternative to traditional insurance products.

Picton has over 18 years of experience in energy insurance, he started his career at Willis in 2007 as an energy broker. Later, Picton served at Marsh in 2012, and then spent five years as an energy underwriter based in Singapore for XL Catlin and Argenta. He eventually joined Gallagher in 2020.

Picton added, “We recognise that those clients with interests outside of the traditional energy segments require an alternative approach with a specialist broker, who is able to identify the differing risks these projects face and provide bespoke insurance solutions.
