SCOR’s Léger & Lloyd’s Neal to lead Insurance Europe’s RAB

SCOR’s CEO Thierry Léger and Lloyd’s CEO John Neal have been appointed chair and vice-chair of Insurance Europe’s Reinsurance Advisory Board (RAB) respectively.

Thierry Léger takes over from Gen Re’s Charlie Shamieh, who has held the RAB chairmanship since June 2023.

A well-known figure in the reinsurance industry, Léger has 25 years of experience, having served as CEO of SCOR since May 2023.

John Neal also needs no introduction, currently serving as CEO of Lloyd’s of London, a position he has held since 2018.

According to Insurance Europe, Neal will be vice-chair of the RAB before taking over from Léger as chair in June 2025.

Insurance Europe continued, “With the new European Parliament and Commission about to enter into office, the change of chairmanship comes at a pivotal time. In light of the significant challenges the industry is facing, ensuring its competitiveness must remain a priority for Europe.”

Léger commented, “I am honoured to serve as the RAB’s chair and would like to express my gratitude to Charlie for his leadership over the past year.

“While the world is experiencing multiple transitions all at once (geopolitical, ecological, digital), I’m looking forward to working with John and my fellow RAB members.

“Together, we will continue to promote an open and thriving reinsurance market in which risks can be diversified globally, and to educate stakeholders on the power of reinsurance to protect societies in these challenging times.”

Neal noted, ‘I am delighted to take up the position of vice-chair of the RAB and to support the vital and innovative role reinsurers play in mitigating risks in an increasingly uncertain world.”
