Bangkok-based Asian Reinsurance Corporation (Asian Re) has announced the appointment of a new Chairperson, Sumalee Satitchaichareon, Deputy Director-General, Fiscal Policy Office, the Ministry of Finance of Thailand.
Asian Re is an intergovernmental organisation established in 1979 with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP).
The organisation accepts treaty and facultative business covering all traditional classes from insurers in member states and beyond its areas of operation, which include Asia, Middle East and Africa.
With the appointment of Satitchaichareon as Chairperson, Asian Re’s new Management Board comprises of executives with four nationalities including Thailand, ushering in a new era of the Corporation, the organisation stated.
At present, Asian Re has ten regular founding member states: Thailand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Iran, the Philippines, South Korea and Sri Lanka.
In addition, 19 leading insurance and reinsurance firms from the Asia Pacific region form part of Asian Re as Associate members.
