Independent specialist re/insurance broker Miller, has appointed Guy Pierpoint to its Marine team in a leadership role which will see him focus on business development.

Pierpoint joined the broker at the beginning of the month, bringing almost four decades of experience in Marine insurance across the London and international markets.

At Miller, he reports to Jake Jauncey, Head of MTL, and Phil Wheeler, Head of Marine, with particular responsibility for building Miller’s North American book of business and for further expanding its expertise and capabilities across the market.

The role will also see him work closely with senior Miller marine broker Peter Townsend.

Pierpoint began his insurance career in the Lloyd’s market in 1985 at G.L. Towers Syndicate, part of the Willis Faber Underwriting Management Group, which went on to become Wellington Underwriting.

Fast forward to 1991, he played a key role in setting up Osprey Underwriting Agency, a marine-focused managing general agent (MGA) and Lloyd’s Coverholder, where he served as CEO until the business was sold to Thomas Miller in 2016.  Pierpoint remained CEO of Thomas Miller Specialty until 2021.

Prior to joining Miller, Pierpoint spent three years working as a Portfolio Manager for British Marine, part of QBE, managing its P&I book across both London and Singapore.

Before taking on that role, he was a Senior Executive Director at Atlantic Insurance Brokers, where he held responsibility for developing the firm’s retail broking business in Houston, Texas, and for business development in London too.
